There’s no denying that scent is a powerful tool for our wellbeing and the practice of aromatherapy is a thoroughly researched and respected method of healthcare across the globe. Though it’s not until you’ve personally experienced the positive effects of therapeutically pure essential oils that you can understand their place in our busy modern lives.

Using Essential Oils Aromatically 

We’ve looked at the connection between scent and feeling, and we’ve acknowledged how mums cooking and fresh fragrances connect with our state of mind. So what happens when we diffuse or wear essential oils and inhale their naturally occurring properties?

When we breathe we are absorbing the molecules of any given scent in the air around us, and these molecules stimulate the olfactory receptors which are found deep in our nasal passages. To provide a very simple overview of the process, these receptors then carry signals of that specific scent to several areas of your brain making it possible for you to recognise the aroma and attribute it to a memory or feeling. Which Essential Oils Included in the dōTERRA Touch Kit?

Peppermint
One of the most popular essential oils, Peppermint Oil has been traditionally used in aromatherapy to reduce cough, support mental focus, and help relieve the symptoms of mild tension or headache. It is also well known for being a natural insect deterrent (so it’s a good one to take on picnics), and it’s fresh and minty aroma will uplift and energise your mood. Apply to the spine every couple of hours for full body support when feeling unwell.

Oregano
Oregano is one of the most powerful and potent essential oils available and has been used for centuries in traditional healing practices. Carvacrol and Thymol, which are the two main chemical components in Oregano essential oil, have strong purifying properties and are renowned for their antibacterial uses. Diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil, Oregano Touch is perfect for topical application to the skin as the neat essential oil is too hot for this. You can apply it to the bottom of your feet, or either side of the trachea, to boost your immune system or use topically before the ice blue touch roller for relief of sore muscles.
 
DigestZen® (Proprietary Blend)
If you’re feeling anxious about a long flight or road trip, keep this one nearby and enjoy the soothing effects of this spicy, sweet, liquorice aroma which will help relieve your stress and leave you feeling calm. As the name suggests, this blend supports you to “digest” physically, mentally and/or emotionally. Apply clockwise around the belly button and rub in. Also great for use on the face over the cheek bones when you've eaten something that doesn't agree with you, causing the snuffles.

Frankincense
This centuries-old prized and precious essential oil offers soothing and beautifying properties which are used to revitalise the skin and support feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction and overall spiritual and emotional wellness. Apply it to your hands after a hard day's work for a soothing effect, and massage on the bottom of your feet or back of the neck, to help you relax as the aroma creates a peaceful and meditative space.

Ice Blue® (Proprietary Blend)
Perfect for a soothing massage after a long day of work. An icy fresh combination of Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum and Osmanthus essential oils work together to help soothe and cool tired and sore muscles. With a scent reminiscent of a sports rub this is a popular blend for those that work out.

Easy Air® (Proprietary Blend)
This family favourite can be applied topically to the chest, back or bottom of the feet to help calm the senses before a restful night’s sleep. Containing Eucalyptus this beautiful oil may help with seasonal threats and to promote feelings of easy breathing. For loud noises while you or your partner sleeps you might like to apply to the top of each big toe for support.
