This powerful essential oil has been used since the 16th century in traditional medicines and holistic health remedies to provide relief for symptoms ranging from respiratory issues, inflammation, bacterial infection, and to support general health and wellbeing. Being packed with nourishing vitamins and minerals, Copaiba is also widely used in the cosmetics industry for soaps, shampoos, and skincare. You’ll often see it listed as an essential element on skincare products for its effectiveness in reducing the signs of blemishes and redness.

You’ll find the Copaiba tree in the tropical regions of South America and partnering with dōTERRA’s co-impact sourcing guidelines we help others whilst helping ourselves to be able to have access to this amazing essential oil. Check out Dr. Hill and Emily Wright’s visit to see copaiba sourcing in Brazil here.

The naturally produced oleoresin (sap) of the tree is extracted using a tapping method and then steam distilled to produce the essential oil we use today. Combined with its beautiful aroma, this essential oil is an all-rounder that can be diffused or taken as a soft-gel to benefit from its natural properties.

Along with its medicinal and cosmetic uses, Copaiba is also known for its soothing and calming effect when used in aromatherapy. As we all know, the stress and anxiousness that comes with feeling unwell can contribute to and emphasise the symptoms we experience. So, knowing I can add a few drops to the diffuser in our home really helps when one of us is feeling under the weather.

One of my boys has been really struggling with the arrival of spring. Pollen is everywhere and he has been a little short of breath and super snotty. No, not everything is COVID!  Other respiratory issues still exist and knowing we have natural remedies that have been used for centuries, reassures and empowers me when making treatment decisions for my family.

Rather than reaching for the pharmaceuticals at the first sign of a sniffle, here is one of my go-to remedies to support respiratory symptoms in our home:

Seasonal Airway Support:

Apply morning and at night before bed

3 Tbsp FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
10 drops Copaiba
10 drops Easy Air
10 drops Myrrh
10 drops On Guard

Mix in a small egg cup or glass bowl and apply it to the chest and upper back over the rib area.

Diet:

Low sugar, read food labels, nothing over 5g/100g in a serving.
Low grain (rice, breads, cereals)

Additional:

Taking 2 GX assist soft gels 3 times a day (e.g. with breakfast, after school with afternoon tea, with dinner).
Taking 2 vitamin D capsules and vitamin C with extra zinc. Saline nasal spray to help rinse out particulates after being outdoors.

This is how we are supporting our son and this treatment should be taken as a suggestion and not as medical advice. We always book in and see our GP if symptoms persist or aren't shifting.

We find the essential oils support us best when we use small amounts consistently. I always carry on using the same oils for a couple of days after symptoms have gone. It can take our bodies a few days to completely recover and I continue to support our immune systems beyond any obvious symptoms, to be sure it doesn’t come back.

Toxicity, high sugar, grain-based diets, and unwelcome microbes have a lot to answer for!

These elements of our daily diets leave our systems clogged and unable to work effectively. We need to hose off and break down debris, just like washing mud off a car before we can clean it. Citrus essential oils have powerful abilities in this part of the cleaning process and are able to cut through the junk, allowing our bodies to enable the full potential of essential oils like Copaiba to then go to work. In this case with amazing support for our immune system.

Isn’t it brilliant, the way natural therapies like essential oils work collectively! We are able to blend them and use them simultaneously to benefit from their individual and combined properties in so many ways.
